There are some new ones available to residents this year under the <a href=\"\/\/6abc.com\/fireworks-usage-expected-to-skyrocket-due-to-change-in-law\/3652748\/%20\/\/philadelphia.cbslocal.com\/2018\/06\/25\/new-law-allows-pennsylvanians-to-light-up-sky-with-better-fireworks\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pennsylvania&#8217;s 2017 fireworks law (opens in new tab)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In October, <a href=\"\/\/www.lehighvalleylive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2017\/12\/boom_pennsylvania_expands_fire.html\">a new fireworks law <\/a> replaced the previous one from 1939 and allowed expanded sale of certain kinds of explosives to state residents. Under the new law, sales are taxed at 12 percent per item.<\/p>\n<p>Sales statistics were not immediately available, but stores are already seeing benefits, said William A. Weimer, vice president of Phantom Fireworks. &#8220;It can&#8217;t possibly do anything but increase the volume of sales,&#8221; Weimer said of the new law.<\/p>\n<p>But there are still some <a href=\"\/\/www.lehighvalleylive.com\/easton\/index.ssf\/2018\/06\/easton_officials_want_to_douse.html\">significant restrictions<\/a> on what you can get and where you can \u2014 or, rather, can\u2019t \u2014 shoot them off.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery_slide_title\">\n<h2 style=\"font-size:100%\">What fireworks are legal in Pennsylvania?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery_slide_description\">\n<p><a href=\"\/\/www.agriculture.pa.gov\/Business_Industry\/fireworks\/Documents\/New%20Fireworks%20Law%20-%20Effective%20October%2030%202017.pdf\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State Law (opens in new tab)<\/a> now permits the sale of what are deemed \u201cconsumer fireworks.\u201d These include firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle rockets, and similar fireworks that contain a maximum of 50 milligrams of explosive material \u2014 previously only sold to out-of-state residents. Things like sparklers, caps and other novelties were already available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery_slide_title\">\n<h2 style=\"font-size:100%\">What fireworks are illegal in Pennsylvania?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery_slide_description\">\n<p>\u201cDisplay fireworks\u201d are not for sale. These are large fireworks generally restricted to professionals or certain uses that require a municipal permit, such as sports ceremonies, quarry blasting, railroad signals and protecting crops from birds. These fireworks are not publicly available.<\/p>\n<p>Federal rules still apply, of course, <a href=\"\/\/www.atf.gov\/explosives\/fireworks-safety-and-security\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">outlawing explosives (opens in new tab)<\/a> that don\u2019t adhere to safety standards. Devices such as M-80s, M-100s, quarter sticks and cherry bombs are considered illegal by most law enforcement agencies and are banned in many states, according to the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery_slide_title\">\n<h2 style=\"font-size:100%\">Who can buy fireworks in Pennsylvania?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery_slide_description\">\n<p>Anyone 18 or older can purchase consumer fireworks. You have to be at least 21 for a display fireworks permit. ID is required for purchase<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery_slide_title\">\n<h2 style=\"font-size:100%\">Where can you buy fireworks in Pennsylvania?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gallery_slide_description\">\n<p><a href=\"\/\/fireworks.com\/locations\/by-state\/pa\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fireworks can be purchased (opens in new tab)<\/a> at any place licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. In addition to brick-and-mortar stores, licenses can also be issued to temporary facilities like tents or parking lot booths \u2014 temporary sites can sell fireworks June 15 to July 8 and Dec. 21 to Jan. 2.<\/p>\n<p>You can find licensed sellers in your area with the <a href=\"\/\/padeptag.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=7311c65f7fb84efea6d09b8766b00c90\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agriculture department\u2019s map.
